Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high refractive index, which it’s surpassed only by a few other materials.  TiO2 is an effective hiding pigment in powder form, where it provides whiteness and opacity.  Opacity is improved by optimal sizing of the titanium dioxide particles.  Approximately 4 million tons of TiO2 are consumed annually worldwide for pigment applications.

The major consuming industries for TiO2 pigments are mature sectors in the developed world such as plastics, surface coatings, paper and, paperboard. Therefore, consumption of TiO2 tends to parallel general economic trends.  Paint and coating applications account for the largest world share, with plastics and paper accounting for most of the rest.

Celeritas’ Chemicals new 14202-1 TiO2 is a low alumina-treated rutile pigment and a  general purpose grade that offers high brightness, high tint strength and blue undertone. It has use in polyolefins and engineering plastics due to its ease in processing and broad compatibility.

With the global and regional demand for Ti02 increasing yearly and economics driving the fluctuations, Celeritas Chemicals now offers CELCHEM 14202-1 as an additive for use in the following applications:

•   Plastics - Color concentrates, masterbatch & compounding for use in following polymers:

o   Polystyrene & Polypropylene
o   High Density Polyethylene, Low Density PE, Linear Density PE
o   PVC (rigid & flexible)
o   ABS, PET, PBT
o   Polycarbonate & Polyphenylene Sulfide
o   Nylon 6 & 66

•   Rubber Compounding
