Saving Money Becomes Top Priority this Year as Families Expect to Cut Spending on Christmas Gifts

Dec. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- With many finding it difficult to cope in the current economical climate, Christmas can make things even more difficult, so in an attempt at saving money - 4 out of 10 Britons will now do things such as shop online and buy gifts earlier in the year.

“Christmas can be a stressful period for many due to the financial pressure pilled on them, so it is no surprise that people are starting to tighten their belts and cut down on their Xmas spending this year,” said James Jones from Poor Credit Loans 4 You.       http://www.poor-credit-loans-4-you.co.uk/poor-credit-christmas-loans-for-christmas-loans-for-people-with-poor-credit-christmas-loans.html

People have attempted to cut their Xmas spending in many different ways this year, such as not buying a Christmas Tree or buying an artificial tree that they will be able to use again next year.

Richard Lloyd - executive director of Which? said, ‘Cash-strapped consumers are really feeling the impact of rising costs this Christmas.  People are being forced to cut back.

‘But Christmas doesn’t have to be cancelled.  Savvy shoppers can save money with online deals, discount days and pre-Christmas sales.

‘You should compare prices between stores and don’t be afraid to haggle to get the best price.’

Many people will have attempted to cut the cost of Christmas by spreading it and shopping earlier on in the year - some also stated that they might consider wrapping up their own unwanted Christmas gifts as presents for their friends or family in another attempt at saving money.

“It is expected that only around one in five will be paying for Christmas on their credit card, hoping to prevent racking up debt that they will have to pay off over the next year,” said James Jones from Poor Credit Loans 4 You.    http://www.poor-credit-loans-4-you.co.uk/poor-credit-xmas...

Visa did a study this month that found that early Christmas spending on credit - debit and prepaid cards was actually down by 10.9 per cent on the last year.

Wales and Scotland are thought to be better prepared than England for Christmas this year with around 72 per cent and 68 per cent respectively say that they have what they need to for Christmas this year.

Last Monday it was “Mega Monday” which sees online sales increase massively and is the day where the most money is spent by shoppers. It was expected that sales reached around £424million over the course of the day.  So even though overall sales are expected to fall, this will mainly be at the expense of high street stores as online stores are expecting to see big increases.

Around a quarter of the UK public will be doing their Christmas shopping online, with 33.7% of online shopping being on gifts, 24.5% on travelling at Christmas, 20.6% on decorations and 6.7% on food and drink for over the festive period.

“Many people prefer to shop online as it is less stressful and gifts are sometimes cheaper than if you were to buy from a high street retailer, which is probably why there is now a quarter of all the UK public now doing their Christmas shopping online,” said James Jones from Poor Credit Loans 4 You.
