Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- ATLANTA — A deal completed by a team from McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) has been nominated as a finalist for “Turnaround Deal of the Year” and “Consumer and Retail Products Deal of the Year” in the 10th Annual M&A Advisor Awards. The M&A Advisor Awards recognizes excellence in deal making. Winners will be announced at the awards gala, which will take place as part of the 2011 M&A Advisor Summit on December 12-13, 2011 in New York at the New York Athletic Club.

“It is encouraging to see the creativity and resourcefulness that dealmakers have employed during this challenging environment to identify, develop and close meaningful transactions,” said Roger Aguinaldo, CEO and Founder of The M&A Advisor.

The deal nominated is the “Sale of Townsends, Inc. to Peco Foods, Inc. (Arkansas assets) and Omtron, Ltd. (North Carolina assets).” MLA advised Townsends in the transaction and also served as corporate counsel during Townsends’ bankruptcy. Among other things, MLA assisted the company with respect to the negotiation of a debtor-in-possession credit facility. The credit facility allowed Townsends to continue operations during the bankruptcy process, paving the way for the Peco and Omtron transactions. The MLA team included Wayne Bradley, Corporate Department Chair; Mick Cochran, Distress Practice Co-Chair; Mike Levengood, Bankruptcy Partner; and Jeff Phillips, Corporate Associate; all of whom are members of the firm’s Distress practice.

MLA’s Distress practice involves representing troubled companies and their capital providers in complex financial transactions, as well as advising purchasers of distressed businesses and assets both inside and outside the protection of federal bankruptcy courts and state proceedings. With more than 60 attorneys across the nation, MLA is considered to be a thought leader in this space and for the past six years has hosted a Buying Trouble Conference, which is an in-depth, half-day conference on buying, selling and financing troubled companies.

Since 1998, The M&A Advisor has been the preeminent organization facilitating connections and recognizing achievement in the top performers of the M&A, turnaround and financing industries through its leading Awards, Summits, newsletters, social network, research and publishing, and business development services.
