Philadelphia City Council to hear testimony regarding new bouncer training & registration bill

Philadelphia City Council, Licenses and Inspections Committee to hear testimony from Philadelphia personal Injury Lawyer, Michael L. Saile Jr., regarding the need for a new bouncer and doorman training, registration and licensing law.

Nov. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- PHILADELPHIA, PA – Pennsylvania personal injury attorney, Michael L. Saile, Jr., of Saile & Saile LLP, will be testifying before the Licenses and Inspections Committee of the Philadelphia City Council on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.  New legislation relating to an important public safety issue will be presented to the Committee.

The proposed bill will require bouncers, doormen, and security personnel who are employed at liquor-serving establishments in Philadelphia to complete a training course and register with the City.  The bill, as proposed, will also prohibit employers from employing unregistered and untrained bouncers and from hiring bouncers with violent criminal records.

Michael L. Saile, Jr., is a Philadelphia area personal injury attorney who recently brought a suit against a popular center city bar known as the Fieldhouse, located at the Reading Terminal Market.  Mr. Saile’s client, Dean R. Bowser, was punched, kicked, and forced through a door and suffered a severe injury to his forearm.  The bouncers had no safety training on how to use force to remove a patron and so they unnecessarily caused the severe injuries to Mr. Bowser.

A story about this case made the front cover of the Philadelphia Daily News on May 6, 2011.  http://articles.philly.com/2011-05-06/news/29516532_1_bou....

It has been reported that Philadelphia City Councilman, William Greenlee, read the story and was inspired to create a new bill, which will hopefully to be signed into law soon. This type of bouncer licensing requirement has been enacted in other cities and states across the country.

This new bouncer registration law will protect city residents, tourists, and bar and restaurant owners.  It will help eliminate serious injuries, death, and costly litigation involved with abusive and untrained bouncers.
