-- Even new homes are not safe from the health effects of Mold. Recently a customer of Environmental Systems purchased a new home. The structure was completed in July 2011. The home occupants a husband and wife with three children began to experience cold and flu like symptoms. One of the children began having behaviorial issues at school. The intial walkthrou inspection perfromed by Environmental Systems, a state certified Indoor Air Quality Company. The results of first waltk-thru inspection did not reveal any noticable indoor air quality issues. The indoor air of the structure was tested for moisture, physical air contaminants and Mold. Elevated levls of mold was detected in walls and ceiling areas a it appears that windows and skylights were improverly installed allowing for water intrusion. Water leaks are not always visible in the interior
of the structure and the effects of air bourne mold and fungi contamination can be devasting to the health of a family. Not all illness related to poor indoor air quality is related to Mold. High Carbon Dioxide and formyldhyde levels can also cause health related isuues. A leaking gasoline of heating oil tank on your property or neighbors property can cause serious health risks through vapor intrusion. The United States
Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA) has developed Vapor Intrusion Standards for residential and commercial building to protect occupants from being exposed to specific chemicals. Environmental Systems (depenvirosystems.com)
can provide cost effective practical approaches to indoor air quality issues which may require remediation.
