Nov. 24, 2011 - Affectionately called Street Turkeys, an effort by the Wrightsville Beach United Methodist Church men’s group on the day before Thanksgiving collected thousands of pounds of frozen turkeys and nonperishable food items collected for The Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina. Inman Trucking, Inc. and the Super Storage Group provided a refrigerated tractor trailer for perishable food. The third annual event was held on Nov. 23, 2011 in The Landing shopping center in Wrightsville Beach. At the close of the event Inman Trucking delivered the collections to The Food Bank. The Street Turkey program collected food all over New Hanover County to help restock the shelves of the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina. From there, the food goes to 83 different charities in the area to feed the less fortunate during the holiday season.
