PRLog - Nov. 23, 2011 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Ripple, a 3-month-old tortie (tortoise shell) kitten needs a good home. She is very active and loving, according to Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary officials.

Ripple was found in a field in Falcon, CO with her brothers Rango and Rookie by a young boy walking home from school.

Due to allergies the family was unable to care for the litter and they were subsequently rescued by Wild Blue Animal Shelter & Sanctuary, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Fortunately Ripple’s brothers have already found great homes!

Unfortunately, following a routine medical evaluation a defect was found in Ripple’s heart.  It is called Ventricular Septal Defect, which is essentially a hole in her heart between the left and right ventricles. This condition can be found in other cats, but what makes Ripple’s defect so rare is the size of the hole. It is significant and showing signs of enlargement.

Ripple has seen a specialist in Denver and at this time is too young for the surgery she needs to help repair the hole in her heart.

Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary has been paying for her medical care and will continue to pay for it until she is healthy enough to be adopted, but her surgery will cost at least $3,000, this is not including any other medicine or procedures she may need.

While Ripple is smaller than most kittens her age, due to this condition, she is gaining weight and strength every day.  She’s had a very rough start to life, but her medical challenges are not slowing her down!

“She will always be a special needs kitty, either on medication or needing surgery, but will be a great addition to any loving home with the means to care for her,” said Lauri Cross, Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Executive Director.

Ripple is a rare and wonderful kitty who gets along with dogs and loves people. Now she just needs a little holiday magic to help get her the surgery and care she so desperately needs.

“Eventually, she will need a family willing to love and care for her long term,” Cross said.

If you are interested in donating or volunteering your services to help with her surgery, or would like more information about adopting this wonderful kitten, after she has had her surgery, please contact Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.
