Schubros Brewery Launches Community-Centric Fundraising Effort

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 22, 2011 - Faced with financing hurdles in a tough investment climate, Schubros Brewery (http://www.schubrosbrewery.com) is turning to the community for help to bring the San Ramon Valley its first locally owned and operated craft beer company by Memorial Day 2012. Today the brewery officially launched its grass roots, community fundraising campaign, Yes In My Backyard (YIMBY!).

The brewery upstart is undertaking this non-traditional financing method as banks tow an increasingly conservative line and institutional investors balk at the extensive rights Schubros will give its common shareholders.

The company hopes to tap local pride and community spirit to achieve its fundraising goals. At its crux, the YIMBY! Campaign (http://www.schubrosbrewery.com/yimby.html) seeks to raise the final $90,000.00 that the brewery needs for its seed capital.  Centered on the Schubros Brewery website, the YIMBY! page invites contributions from neighbors who are interested in purchasing merchandise while, at the same time, supporting the fundraising effort.

Consumers can participate at contribution levels, which are as low as $5.00 (featuring stickers and coupons) and as high as $2,000.00, whereby Brewmaster Mike Johannsen will personally bartend and present at a private event (bringing 20 liters of custom-brewed beer with him, along with other items). At prices in-between, there are also t-shirts, polo shirts and sweatshirts for sale.

“While our YIMBY! Campaign is unique, it is not completely original -- there are a couple of web-based organizations across the country, which exist solely to support contribution-driven funding campaigns like ours,” said Ian Schuster, president of Schubros Brewery. “But we’re about here – the 580/680 corridor between Walnut Creek and Livermore. Our sales and staffing are going to come from here and one percent of our revenues are going back to the local community.  So, we thought the best approach to our fundraising campaign would be to back away from a big blast across the whole Internet and bring it home.”  

Brewmaster Mike Johannsen said, “We’re bringing an innovative concept to our area. Living in wine country, we are all familiar with wine and food pairing.  But there is another dimension of food and beverage coupling that beer opens up. In fact, every beer we brew is specifically crafted to bring forth each style’s natural flavor hooks.  We’re committed to teaching others how to maximize that experience.”
