Nov. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Garden furniture, although it is nota s used as indoor accessories, has more than a decorative function. When shopping for outdoor furniture, we have to, in fact, think about the use we are going to make of that furniture and the main objective of its nature. Depending on the use, we will also have to choose the best material of construction, considering that every type requires different maintenance and is more or less flexible to position changes.

Wood is one of the most widely used materials for garden furniture. It looks great in rural settings but it is also perfect to remind us of nature in our houses in urban areas. The many finishes, colors and tones of wood that are available in the market today make it easy to find the desired kind of wood and easy the process of matching new furniture with existing pieces. Some types of wood are specially resistant to adverse atmospheric conditions but in general wood is not the easiest  material to maintain outdoors, especially in high humidity climates. The recommendation is that of keeping wood furniture inside or at least covered during the winter months when the use of the garden decreases.

Wicker is light and easy to clean, and it can last a long time if specific waxes are applied to protect it from humidity. Since the material is not heavy at all, they can be transported inside the house during storms for longer conservation. Wicker furniture is a great choice if you spend a lot of time in the garden either playing with kids or organizing parties or dinners with friends. The vast array of fabrics available for complementing wicker furniture also make it easier to fit into any decorative style.

Stainless steel furniture is, together with aluminum accessories, a great choice for those who are looking for modern, low-maintenance, durable outdoor furniture. Aluminum is lighter, although they both have great resistance to atmospheric elements way beyond wood, wicker or iron. Tables and benches built in stainless steel are not affected by rust of corrosion, cleaning is rather painless and they can be in the open for long periods of time with little maintenance.

Wrought iron is the star of many gardens since it can integrate with many decorating styles and it is easy to mix with already existing furniture and architectural structures of many types. The robustness of garden furniture in wrought iron is not under discussion and provides the person who buys it with furniture pieces that can last for many years if treated correctly to avoid rust.

Plastic furniture is an alternative that has been winning fans among the people that shop for garden furniture and that are on the look, most of all, for low maintenance furniture that can be frequently moved around. Pieces in plastic are surely one of the lighter ones and they are the easiest to clean. Washing down the furniture with some clean water will be usually enough to eliminate dirt, and a solution of detergent, water and bleach will help in cleansing the surfaces from mold and mud.
