All Children Need For Christmas Is To Be ’Money Wise’

WiseMoney is an educational board game for ages 13 and up that instructs the entire family about managing money. Players compete by answering financial-related questions and face real-world situations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 21, 2011 - Albuquerque, New Mexico -- This holiday season, there is an ideal gift for parents and grandparents who want to teach their children and grandchildren — and the entire family — to become “money wise.”

“WiseMoney, The Town of Financial Literacy,” was developed after students playing a schools version kept saying, “My parents don’t know this! My parents need to play, too!”

WiseMoney is an educational board game for ages 13 and up that instructs the entire family about managing money. Players compete by answering financial-related questions and face real-world situations and challenges. As they progress, they develop their financial expertise and personal money management skills until they prove they are wise about money and reach the finish line.

Players follow the footsteps on the board of the fictitious town of WiseMoney, where all of the streets are named after financial terms. Successful players can reside on “Stocks and Bonds Boulevard” or enroll at “Financial University,” while others may wind up on “Bankruptcy Alley.”

Wise Money is a fast-paced, team-based competition that tests one’s knowledge about money management topics such as:
• Banking and Investing
• Budgeting and Payday
• Financial Responsibility
• Financing and Credit
• Identity Protection

Studies have showed that board games are more effective learning tools than electronic games and more knowledge is retained for a longer time.

According to other financial-related studies:

• 93% of high school graduates need education in financial management, according to their teachers

• 80% of adults say they would benefit from answers to everyday financial questions

• 69% of parents feel less prepared to give their children advice and guidance about investing than they do about “the birds and the bees”

• 41% of adults grade themselves a C or below on their personal finance know-how

"WiseMoney, The Town of Financial Literacy" is made by Destina, Inc. (http://www.destinagames.com), a woman-owned business headquartered in Albuquerque, NM that creates team-based, face-to-face learning games.

"By playing, young adults learn about financial matters including distinguishing between needs and wants, money management and savings, and managing unexpected life surprises as having to pay a parking ticket or needing to replace tires on the car,” said Elizabeth Treher, Ph.D., founder of Destina, Inc.

The game, which retails for $34.99, can be played by two to 12 players, forming teams when there are four players or more. It includes a colorful 20-inch playing board and rules, four player pieces, two different types of dice, a spinner, a timer, and eight sets of cards.

Among the questions the game asks players are:
• What is a grace period?
• What do you do when your checking account is overdrawn?
• What does “pay yourself first” mean?
• Name two deductions taken out of your paycheck
