Marc L. Charney Receives Ventura County Bar's Ben E. Nordman Public Service Award

Nov. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Ventura, Calif.--Marc L. Charney, of counsel with Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP (NCHC), is the recipient of the Ventura County Bar Association's Ben E. Nordman Public Service Award. The annual award recognizes outstanding community contributions by a Ventura County lawyer through charitable and public service activities.

   Charney received the award during the bar's November 19 Installation and Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Ventura. This is the first year Charney was eligible to receive the honor. He served as secretary for the award selection committee since the award's inception in 1986 thus making him ineligible for consideration. He retired from the position earlier this year.

   “I have managed the selection process for 21 years and rarely, if ever, has a first time nominee been awarded the Ben E. Nordman Public Service Award," says Steve Henderson, Ventura County Bar executive director. "Typically, a candidate returns numerous times before actually receiving the award. Marc Charney is a rare treasure in the legal community donating countless hours to dozens of organizations in Ventura County.”

   Charney has been active in community business and charitable organizations since his early days as a lawyer. Some of his activities included serving as senior director and president of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, director and president of the Ventura County Economic Development Association, director of the Greater Oxnard Economic Development Corporation, vice president and director of United Way of Ventura County and vice president and director of the American Cancer Society, Central County Division. He is a founding director and is currently on the advisory committee to the Ventura County Leadership Academy.
