Toxoplasmosis Exposed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network produces another educational video about dangers due to exposure to microbial pathogens and environmental hazards.

Nov. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses the threat to human health due to Toxoplasmosis and Toxoplasma gondii.

Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by a single-celled parasite called Toxoplasma gondii.  More than 60 million people in the United States may be infected with the Toxoplasma parasite. Of those who are infected, very few have symptoms because a healthy person's immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness.

“Pregnant women and individuals who have compromised immune systems should be cautious about any exposures to Toxoplasma gondii as an infection could cause serious health problems,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “One way people may become infected with this parasite is through contact with cat feces that contain Toxoplasma gondii.  Some people who have toxoplasmosis may feel as if they have the flu with swollen lymph glands or muscle aches and pains that last for a month or more.  Severe toxoplasmosis, causing damage to the brain, eyes, or other organs, can develop from an acute Toxoplasma infection.  We hope this new online video helps to educate people about this parasite and ways people can protect their health.”
