GFSR Looks at LiftnBuddy for Hand truck Safety

GFSR and Manufacturing Journalist TR Cutler Look at LiftnBuddy for Hand truck Safety
By: TR Cutler

Nov. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Hand trucks, two-wheelers, and lifting devices, have changed little in the past hundred years. Heavy-duty hand trucks of the past caused more than one-third of all material-handling injuries, whether used in deliveries, moving product in a food warehouse or food manufacturing plant floor.

In an article in the current issue of the Global Food Safety Resource Centre News, manufacturing journalist TR Cutler examines the role of                                  Hand Truck Safety in the Food and Beverage industry.  According to Cutler, “Workforce health and safety is paramount and the data clearly shows that repetitive lifting, lowering, and moving injuries costs North American businesses millions of dollars each year. Automating those potentially dangerous tasks significantly reduces the potential for injuries and costly downtime.  The food and beverage industry is most prone to these types of costly injuries because it is in these plants and warehouses that improper and heavy lifting most often takes place.”

Aaron Lamb, inventor of Lift’n Buddy noted, “Employees repeatedly move products from a delivery truck to a hand truck or stack. Product can be moved and stacked to shoulder height…it may need to be lowered to ground level. These lifting tasks pose an increased risk of pain and injury and should be considered hazardous unless appropriate solutions are implemented.”

Ergologistics manufactures develop products for the health and welfare of material handling workers. Lift'n Buddy is designed and distributed by Ergologistics, LLC; manufactured in Fargo, North Dakota, the company is a proud member of MHIA (Material Handling Industry of America) as well as the National Safety Council.  The National Safety Council helps reduce the number of workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities, and recognizes that improving safety at a company engages workers across the organization – and adds to the bottom line.

Ergologistics supports the Council’s suggestion of using employee perception surveys to understand and improve Safety Leadership and Employee Engagement. Working to improve this shared ownership and responsibility will enhance your safety culture.

Continued Risk Reduction is achieved through a repeatable process focused on operational risk and how to make worker jobs safer.  Simple challenges from overexertion, slips, trips or falls, can be reduced by using simple and cost-effective electric hand trucks or dollies.

The Lift'n Buddy has been designed with proper ergonomics and safety in mind for any person and any moving and lifting job.  These mobile lifting devices, fabricated of durable, lightweight, extruded aluminum, help companies avoid the financial exposure of employee injury, litigation, and worker’s compensation claims.

Lift'n Buddy is ergonomically safe and environmentally friendly since the electric hand trucks require no oil, gas, hydraulic fluid, or maintenance of any kind. Completely electric and geared for life, even the battery is 100 % recyclable. Lift’n Buddy will be a significant part of MODEX 2012 in Atlanta, GA February 6 – 9th. Exhibiting at booth 1829, Ergologistics is proud to participate in one the largest expositions for manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the Americas in 2012. The show is designed to offer supply chain efficiency solutions, learning opportunities and information by showcasing the products and services of exceptional companies.
