Follow on Google News | Stenberg: “Supercommittee Shaping up to be Super Failure”Don Stenberg said today that the Congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the “supercommittee”, must focus on massive spending cuts in order to revive the nation’s sinking economy and put Americans back to work.
By: Stenberg for Senate 2012 Committee http://www.StenbergForSenate.com “As I said back in August when Congress punted the problem to the supercommittee, our economy can’t afford to wait while politicians in Washington argue over how much more taxes they can impose on hard working Americans and small businesses. In order to save our economy we must have real, sustainable spending cuts – to the tune of trillions of dollars. The supercommittee is shaping up to be a super failure,” Stenberg said. “Because Democrats and Republicans in Washington have failed to stop out of control spending, we stand on the brink of fiscal devastation. At the close of business on Wednesday, the national debt stood at $15.033 trillion, and amount grater than our entire economy. Since President Obama took office, the debt has risen $4.41 trillion, $6.36 trillion since the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007. And, the debt has increased $8.6 trillion on Ben Nelson’s watch,” Stenberg said. “Forcing a choice between tax increases that will further damage our economy and reckless cuts from areas like the defense budget is a great disservice to our nation," he said. # # # Mr. Stenberg served as Nebraska Attorney General from 1990-2002 and was elected Nebraska State Treasurer in 2010.
