Nov. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- New Delhi, November 10, 2011: Bharat Soka Gakkai, a non-government organization working for peace, culture and education organised a three day exhibition titled, “The Power of One-Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace”. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Kapila Vatsayan, Member, Rajya Sabha,  Member, UNESCO and graced by Former Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India; Hon. Justice Mukta Gupta, Judge, Delhi High Court; Smt. Asha Hooda, Wife of Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana; Dr. Prodipta Sen, ED, Alpha G:Corp, Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Ex-Editor-In-Chief Business Standard, Ex-Media Advisor to Prime Minister of India and Hon. Research Fellow, Centre for Policy Research;  Ms. Sagarika Ghose, Deputy Editor, CNN IBN;  Ms. Poonam Bhagat, Fashion Designer; Dr. Minoti Chatterjee, Principal, Kamala Nehru College and Ms. Suman Kumar, Principal, Bluebells School International.

The idea of the exhibit was the brainchild of Lawrence Carter Sr., Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College. The exhibit panels featured photographs, inspirational quotes and information about Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, leader of non violent movement for India’s freedom struggle; Martin Luther King Jr., who worked with principles of non-violence towards the African-American cause and Daisaku Ikeda, President of Soka Gakkai International and leader of peace with the belief that social reform can be created through inner transformation. An award winning film ‘Another Way of Seeing Things’ (filmed in Turkey, 2003) based on an essay of the same title from Dr. Daisaku Ikeda’s book ‘The World is Yours to Change’ was screened through the exhibition. The film depicted the British journalist, Arnold Toynbee’s experiences in Turkey on issues pertaining to the bias against Turks and Muslims in general.

The exhibition was supported by Alpha G:Corp, who frequently support and sponsor wholesome cultural activities for people in many cities. Col. R S (Pickles) Sodhi, MD, Alpha G:Corp complimented the exhibition organized by Bharat Soka Gakkai with the promise, “We will continue to support such wonderful endeavors and such congregations that add impetus to human growth by an evolved and philanthropic organization like, Bharat Soka Gakkai.

The exhibition also had a Children’s Corner with Puppet shows based on the story of Angelina’s Tail and the Buddhist parable Chudapanthaka. These stories illustrate turning our shortcomings into our strengths and using them to build a happy and successful life.

While viewing the exhibit, Dr. Vatsayan, expressed, ‘There is a need for more such exhibitions to be organised in streets, schools and colleges for the younger crowd.’ Hon. Justice Mukta Gupta, was all praises for the exhibition and its organisers and noted that ‘These are the teachings which we all know but tend to ignore. The way this Indian chapter (BSG) is associating with the younger generation is the right direction as they are the future of this earth.’

Smt. Hooda, examined the panels with deep interest and commented that each of the personalities the exhibition was dedicated to - Gandhi, King and Ikeda - was a great writer and that it would take a lifetime to read all that they had written.  She also expressed that ‘Involvement of children makes it all the more great. This is something that can actually save our world and civilisation. I wish this exhibit goes to all parts of India.’

Further, Dr. Baru, having attended past exhibitions organised by the BSG and having visited the Soka Bodhi Tree Garden (SBTG) commented that ‘It’s always an elevating experience and one leaves feeling reassured! It’s a pleasure to see the wonderful work being done by Soka Gakkai – thank you for the experience.’

The honourable guests stood in complete awe of the heartening performance rendered in unison to the tune of ‘We Will Win’ by the children of Soka. Ms. Bhagat, expressed herself saying ‘It is wonderful and refreshing to see a bunch of young kids with so much conviction and enthusiasm. Thank you for asking me to participate.’

Educationists, Dr. Chatterjee and Ms. Kumar opined that more young people should be drawn to exhibitions like this one and that BSG is doing a lot at the grass-root level to involve the youth.  Dr. Chatterjee also suggested having more visual based curated exhibitions traveling to schools and colleges and that Dr. Daisaku Ikeda’s idea of ‘Human Revolution’ and ‘Peace for All Humanity’ should be propagated.

The exhibition was also visited by Ms. Kiran Walia, Social Welfare Minister, Delhi. Says she, ‘BSG is doing wonderful work for mending, healing and feeding with love and peace what the society needs the most. The apostles of peace, the three great icons set the path to follow for us.’ Indian Cricketers, Mr. Ajay Jadeja and Mr. Ashish Nehra, appreciated the collective efforts of the BSG members and while leaving the venue Mr. Jadeja admitted that he got to see a new way of life.
