The Milton Keynes Lightning can now add the title of the UK’s best-groomed ice hockey team to its growing list of achievements after starring in a shaving TV commercial for a leading men’s grooming brand.
The English Premier League’s most successful club play the lead role in a ‘Train Hard Shave Easy’ advert for The Bluebeards Revenge.
The stylish commercial sees a mystery intruder infiltrating a training session, thwarting the Lightning defence and scoring past Alex Mettam. It ends with the mystery blonde giving MK player-coach Nick Poole a very close shave using the brand’s luxury shaving products.
Nick Gibbens, PR and Marketing Manager for The Bluebeards Revenge, expressed his delight with the finished product.
“We’ve invested a lot of time and effort looking for and researching the right sports team to star in our ‘Train Hard Shave Easy’ commercial and the MK Lightning were at the top of this list.
“Ice Hockey is not only a tough and manly sport, its also one of the fastest-growing participation sports in England. It fits absolutely with The Bluebeards Revenge brand.”
MK Lightning’s Nick Poole said the team had enjoyed filming the advert, saying “It was great to get the Bluebeards Revenge team in to film the advert during one of our training sessions – we all had a lot of fun. In fact, the only problem we had was getting Alex Mettam to actually let a shot past and into goal – that took a few takes!

The commercial will initially launch on The Bluebeards Revenge’s popular Youtube channel and then be released onto the TV in 2012.
The Bluebeards Revenge, dubbed the ‘world’s manliest grooming range’, agreed a major one-year contract to become the MK Lightning’s new helmet sponsor and ‘official partner’ in September.
The name and logo of the iconic Bluebeards Revenge brand will now proudly appear on the MK Lightning’s helmets throughout the 2011/12 season.
