Follow on Google News | The Indian consumer is ready for imported food productsINDIA: Importing into India has always been a challenge and requires strong local partners. The recent announcement of the FSSAI to make the handling easier therefore could be considered a boon to Indian importers and European exporters alike.
According to the European Commission, the total value of EU food imports into India (agricultural and fish products) was approx. 270 million € in 2010. This figure is likely to rise tremendously. Victor Eveleens, GM for Import & Distribution at NexusNovus: “For me, as a regular importer of food items from Europe to India, it is great to see that the EU and India have signed this agreement! Till today, it is inevitable to avoid delays at the Indian harbors for customs clearance of F&B products. In a fast moving import market, expiry dates of your products are a leading factor in the success of your sales. Loss of shelf live due to customs delay was a big concern to both the EU exporters as the Indian importers.” Mr. Eveleens continues: “The Indian consumer is ready for imported food products, now that the government has agreed to remove some of the import barriers, the opportunities for European food manufacturers and exporters become endless!” For more information about this topic or to schedule an interview with Mr. Victor Eveleens, please contact Ms. Olufs at e.olufs@nexusnovus.com or call +91 80 6535 3528 and consult http://www.nexusnovus.com.
