BIG ARTS Brings Don Giovanni from the Royal Opera House to the Big Screen

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 18, 2011 - BIG ARTS  launches its new Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series this fall; a program which will stream live and pre-recorded performances from the world’s most distinguished theaters and opera houses directly to Schein Performance Hall, 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. The series is a joint venture with Emerging Cinemas, the largest all-digital theater network in the U.S. The season’s line-up includes Don Giovanni (Dec. 7 at noon); Cendrillon (Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.); Il trittico (Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.); Le Corsaire (March 11 at 11 a.m.); and Rigoletto (April 17 time TBA). All performances are $20, excluding Don Giovanni and Rigoletto at $25.  

Mozart’s Don Giovanni has proven the subject of interest for many writers and philosophers since its premiere in Prague in the late 1770s. Set in Spain in the 1600s, this two-act opera introduces audiences to the arrogant and womanizing Don Giovanni, a man who refuses even in the face of death to repent for his many wrongdoings. Don Giovanni will be streamed live during its Wednesday, December 7 opening night performance at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Show begins at noon eastern time.
