Each event will provide assistance to local organizations including Second Harvest Food Bank, Palo Alto Veterans Hospital and The Family Giving Tree. The Y, located on Ross Road, will host the events mid-November through mid-December. “The economy has not yet stabilized, and there is still much need from people in the community to give back and support their neighbors,” said Scott Glissmeyer, Executive Director of the Y. As a nonprofit, we recognize the demand for donations only increases during the holiday season, and we are pleased that we can help a variety of community partners simultaneously. We hope that by hosting these free events, we can provide a significant contribution to these local organizations, so that every individual who is requesting assistance this holiday season can receive it.” The first event is the Thanksgiving Potluck and Social for ages 50 and up, Thursday, Nov. 17, from 11:30a.m. to 1 p.m. The annual event focuses on giving thanks and appreciation by bringing a donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank. RSVPs are requested for the event, and monetary donations are preferred. On Thursday, Nov. 24, get off to a great start on Thanksgiving morning with a free, fun workout from 8 – 10 a.m. while making a donation to benefit Palo Alto Family YMCA’s community outreach program like our Ventura Teen Community Center. The giving tree will be displayed in the lobby of the Y with gift cards attached. Pick up a gift tag, purchase the gift listed on the card, and return the unwrapped gift to the Y, with the card attached.
