Five Star Author Avraham Azrieli’s New Book Published in Time for the Holidays

Life couldn’t be better for Rusty Dinwall—a heart surgeon, amateur pianist, and volunteer synagogue president. But when his daughter’s wedding takes an unexpected turn, life spins out of control, shattering everything he believes in.

Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Israeli author Avraham Azrieli unfolds a touching story about inter-faith marriage, religious beliefs and feelings in his new book titled, Christmas for Joshua.  Avraham Azrieli proves himself, time and again, to be a popular contemporary writer for our troubled times, as his plots often expose attitudes, beliefs, and actions that contribute to human suffering.  Christmas for Joshua is no exception as his main character’s personal story is all but a metaphor for how humanity itself cries out for religious tolerance and acceptance.

“I’m not sure it is animosity to Judaism or Christianity that I experienced or wished to express while writing Christmas for Joshua,” said Avraham Azrieli during a recent interview with Pacific Book Review.   “In my opinion, human evil comes not from the religion of the perpetrator, but from much darker corners of human primal instincts.  All too often, sadly, religion is used (and abused) by evil perpetrators as an excuse for heinous deeds.  That’s what Christmas for Joshua is all about,” he concluded.

As Christmas is not celebrated as a holiday in Israel, where the author grew up, he does however enjoy many of the customs around the holiday season, especially the songs.  In this way he likes to share the holiday with people of different faiths, as he stated, “This feeling of a ‘shared’ Christmas had inspired me to write Christmas for Joshua.”

This novel is clever and unique in his use of the reversal anti-Semitism as an underpinning to the story.  By reversing this animosity, Avraham Azrieli stated, “The characters, of course, have their own feelings, which come from their personal histories involving both happy and traumatic experiences, just like the rest of us. But the novel, through the characters, does not shy away from showing the extremes to which religious dogma takes some people.”

Christmas for Joshua is published by Createspace and available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major book retailers.
