TOKYO, Japan (October 4, 2011) - The Japan Patent Office, the official agency of the Japanese government responsible for issuing patent and trademark protection in Japan, today formally issued trademark protection to Wahl & Case K.K. for the words “Anshin Contract”.  The official certificate of trademark registration bears the registration number 5439162, and an image can be seen on Wahl & Case’s twitter feed: http://yfrog.com/o0c86mjuj

The Tokyo-based recruitment firm in February announced the innovative new fee agreement designed to mitigate clients’ risk when hiring. Dubbed the Anshin ContractTM, the structure pushes the typical three-month refund/replacement clause standard in Tokyo to a six-month, 100% guarantee. The move reflects another step in Wahl & Case’s bid to drive higher-quality service into the Japan recruitment market.

Wahl & Case managing director Casey Wahl explained that the contract structure is designed to make clients feel more comfortable when working with an outside recruitment firm. Firms need to demonstrate ROI after the outlay of recruitment fees, which can sometimes run more than US$100,000 (¥10 million). “We’re very confident our consultants have the business nous to accurately identify, screen, and introduce top talent to our clients--but inevitably every once in a while a placement doesn’t work out. We’re committed to supporting our clients over the longer term, and this new structure really backs up our word and cuts their risk.”

Recruitment contracts in Tokyo typically have a standard guarantee of three months / 50%―so if a placed candidate quits the job within three months, the recruitment firm will provide a free replacement or refund of 50%. The Wahl & Case Anshin ContractTM upends this least common denominator consensus with a new level of commitment, offering a 100% fee reimbursement or replacement search if a candidate leaves for any reason within six months of joining. The service includes thorough references and third-party background checks.

Initial adoption of the Anshin ContractTM is proceeding quickly, with a majority of Wahl & Case clients expressing interest in the service for some or all searches and several Fortune 500 firms signing up. While pricing of the new plan remains confidential, a number of human resource professionals contacted off the record indicated that any promise of higher quality backed by a written obligation would be welcome as the talent wars begin to flare up again across the market.
