Nov. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- If you’re thinking of a smaller car, think bigger. That is, think about big style, big value, big fuel economy and big fun. The 2012 Kia Rio goes big in all of those areas, but remains small in the most important one: The price. The 2012 Kia Rio starts at an MSRP of less than $14,000 for the new five-door. The details behind the car underscore the value.

Kia spared no effort to make the all-new 2012 Rio the hottest looking car in its class. In four-door or five-door styles, the Rio turns heads, blending highly sculpted, sloping shoulder lines and wedge-shaped profiles with a touch of international sophistication that’s rare in this segment. The look adds function, too, since the longer wheelbase (compared to the previous Rio) opens up more interior space than before.

If the 2012 Rio (MSRP $13,600 for the five-door) looks fun to drive, well, wait until you drive one. The new high-tech 1.6-liter Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine delivers the segment-best 40 mpg highway economy rating you need, and at the same time, also delivers the punch of a class-leading 138 hp. That’s a sizeable advantage over both the Honda Fit (117 hp) and Ford Fiesta (120 hp). It’s higher, too, than even the MINI Cooper (121 hp), a model that’s touted for fun-to-drive performance, but costs over $6,000 more than the 2012 Rio.

The 2012 Kia Rio also tops main competitors in the transmission department, offering a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Having six speeds adds to performance and fuel economy. The Fit offers five speeds either way while the Toyota Yaris automatic uses just four speeds.

The 2012 Kia Rio features an important economy-boosting engine detail that few carmakers currently offer. It’s called Idle Stop and Go (ISG), and it shuts off the engine at stoplights and other instances when the car is idling for a specified time. The instant you release the brake pedal, the engine restarts and you’re on your way. This technology helps save fuel, and if every new car had it, millions of gallons could be conserved nationwide.

If you’ve come to associate the Kia brand with great value, then keep associating. Even with the added style, room, power, fun and technology, the 2012 Kia Rio still gives you great Kia value.

In LX trim, the 2012 Kia Rio comes standard with the features that make every day driving something to enjoy including a six-way adjustable driver's seat, tilt steering column, steering wheel audio controls, a trip computer, electric power steering and 60/40-split/folding rear seats. The hatchback comes with a standard cargo area cover, a feature that costs extra on the $35,600 Infiniti EX35 luxury vehicle.

The Rio EX and SX trim lines come standard with the six-speed automatic transmission and additional comfort and technology features as well. The EX has a black mesh grille with chrome surround. Inside, you’ll find metallic trim throughout and leatherette door trim. Amenities take a jump with a tilt and telescoping steering wheel with controls for the standard cruise control and this model’s standard Bluetooth® wireless connectivity with voice activation. Power windows, including automatic up/down on the driver's side, add convenience. Enjoy your music on the AM/FM/CD/MP3/SiriusXM® Satellite Radio audio system.

The SX level combines more sport and even a taste of luxury. Sport-tuned suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels sharpen handling fun while dual chrome exhaust tips, LED accent lights and taillight clusters and heated side mirrors with turn signals add a sporty flair. The SX interior seems to move up a class or two with the enhanced functionality and visibility of the Supervision™ meter cluster, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shiftknob and other amenities. If you’re big on infotainment, this is the model to get because it comes standard with the UVO powered by Microsoft® voice-activated communication and entertainment system. There’s even a rear camera display.

From there, you can add the Premium Package – with a navigation system, push button start with Smart Key, leather seat trim, heated front seats and a power sunroof – to the 2012 Kia Rio SX. As a brief reminder, this is a story about a 40-mpg subcompact, not a $35,000 luxury vehicle. Kia believes that luxury features and value are not mutually exclusive.

Come in and see the 2012 Kia Rio models, but before you do, expect big things from small cars. Then, see how Kia delivers.
