On Wednesday, November 9th, Diaper Bank Committee Members and Junior League volunteers got right to work unloading the tractor trailer size delivery into donated storage space. Also on hand for the delivery were representatives from the four organizations that benefit from the League’s Diaper Bank; National Diaper Bank Network Executive Director, Joanne Goldblum; and Boca Raton Mayor, Susan Whelchel. “We started our diaper bank last year by collecting 42,000 diapers, and now through our partnership with NDBN we’ll be able to help even more families in our community. The Junior League saw an unmet need in our community and took action, that’s what we do,” said Nancy Dockerty, President of the Junior League of Boca Raton.
The Junior League of Boca Raton created the first Diaper Distribution Network in South Florida to serve a huge need in our community. One in three American mothers struggles to provide enough diapers for their babies. The Junior League of Boca Raton Diaper Bank hopes to help break that cycle for the babies of South Palm Beach and North Broward Counties. To date, the Diaper Bank has distributed over 12,000 diapers which have positively impacted the lives of over 90 babies per month.
Four organizations were selected from a pool of applications to be served by the Junior League of Boca Raton Diaper Bank during the first year of operation: Caridad Center, Family Promise of South Palm Beach County, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, and Milagro Center. At this time, diapers are only distributed through our partnering organizations and not to individuals.
The Junior League of Boca Raton Diaper Bank is proud to be partnering with Rosemurgy Properties and Mission Bay Self Storage who have generously donated storage space for the donation. Mission Bay Self Storage in Boca Raton and Federal Highway Self Storage will also become designated drop-off locations for citizens interested in donating diapers to the bank. In addition, Sunbelt Rentals kindly donated a forklift and pallet jack for the Huggies delivery.
