Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Like the heart, stomach, and brain, our skin is also an organ. And being the largest organ in our body, it assumes an important role of serving as a protective barrier from exposure to ultraviolent radiation, trauma, toxins, and bacteria, and functions as a temperature regulator.  Because of this, our skin needs extra care and special attention. Take proper care of your skin by eating lots of fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of fluids, exercise to help increase your blood circulation, get enough sleep, and avoid smoking, as it causes your skin to dry out. Wash your face daily with warm water and a non-soap, mild cleanser 2-3 times a day, depending on your skin type. Never scrub your skin too vigorously.  Too much cleansing may strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture. Also, using the right cleanser is very important. Choose one that best suits your skin type to avoid over-cleaning, drying, and irritation. Look for a cleanser that is pH-balanced, retains the skin’s natural protective oils, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and with emollient properties.

For a brand of cleanser that has all of these, and is tried, tested, and trusted, Cetaphil cleanser is the right choice for your skin. Cetaphil softens as it gently cleanses, and can be used by all ages and all skin types. It has been around for more than 6 decades, and is recommended worldwide by dermatologists and pediatricians.
One of the most common skin ailments is dryness. Dry skin is actually caused by lack of water, and not lack of oil. Other causes of dry skin include genetics, or a number of internal factors such as aging, malnutrition, atopic dermatitis, and external factors such as climate, heating, excessive contact with water, soaps, and solvents, systemic and topical drugs.

Moisturizers have a big role in keeping your skin smooth and supple, since they hold on to moisture with humectants and other water attracting substance. When moisturizing, remember to apply the “3-minute rule:” this helps retain the moisture absorbed during bath. Apply moisturizer as often as 4 to 5 times a day, or as often as required, and make sure to apply a sufficient amount, until no more of it can be rubbed on to the skin.  When choosing a moisturizer, look for three key ingredients: humectants, which are water-binding agents; emollients, which are skin softeners; and occlusive agents, which block the loss of water from the skin. Cetaphil moisturizers contain a complete formulation of all three ingredients. It significantly improves signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis, and it is fragrance and lanolin free. Cetaphil moisturizers are superior to other brands because of its efficacy in relieving dryness and chapping, its long-lasting moisturizing and skin-softening effect, mildness, and cosmetic properties. Apply it every day after cleansing, and you will have clear, healthy, and beautiful skin in no time.
