Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- MARTINEZ, CA – The Contra Costa County Bar Association (CCCBA) will host its 17th MCLE Spectacular, an annual legal education conference, on November 18, 2011 at the Walnut Creek Marriot. This year, guests will be treated to a stellar line-up of speakers:

8:30–9:30am: Jesse H. Choper, the breakfast kick-off speaker, will discuss “Leading Decisions of the 2009-2010 Term of the United States Supreme Court.”
Professor Choper is the Earl Warren Professor for Public Law at the UC Berkeley School of Law. He has taught in the areas of constitutional and corporation law at Boalt Hall since 1965, as well as around the world as a visiting professor.

Noon–1:30pm: The Honorable Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, Chief Justice of California, the luncheon speaker, will engage in a conversation with CCCBA President Kathryn Schofield. Sworn in on January 3, 2011, Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye is the first Asian-Filipina American to serve as Chief Justice of California. Prior to her election, she served more than 20 years on California trial and appellate courts.

4:00–5:00pm: Judge Vaughn Walker (ret.), the afternoon plenary speaker, will discuss the “Dynamics of a High Profile Case.” Judge Vaughn Walker serves as District Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California from 1989 to 2011. In 2010, Walker, presiding over Perry v. Schwarzenegger, ruled Proposition 8, the voter initiative constitutional amendment that denied same sex couples the right to marry, unconstitutional and prohibited its enforcement.

In addition to high-profile plenary speakers, MCLE Spectacular attendees will also be able to choose from an array of legal education presentations and workshops. Among seminars ranging from mediation to pro bono, the CCCBA Women’s section is sponsoring a seminar on eliminating gender bias in the workplace, hosting executives from Peet’s Coffee and Jamba Juice among its impressive line-up of speakers.
