International NGO ASSIST joins Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production

International NGO Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) joined the 10th Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production held at the Sheraton Hotel in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on November 2011.

Nov. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation joined the 10th Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production at the Sheraton Hotel in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on November 9 to 11, 2011.

Hosted by the Ministry of Environment of Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia Solid Waste Association (InSWA) and the Switch-Asia Program, APRSCP is a global event conducted every 18 months to track the progress of SCP implementation and exchange best practices, innovative ideas.  It also  serves as a networking event for institutions and individuals involved in SCP, this time gathering as many as 300 participants from 27 countries representing governments, private sector, national cleaner production centers, research institutes, international development institutions, banks, NGOs.

The conference is also supported by Indonesia Center for Cleaner Production (ICPC), Ministry of Industry, Agency for The Assessment and Application of Technology, and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Represented by ASSIST Projects and Grants Management Associate Melba Tutor and Group Associate Mahnaz Zanganeh, ASSIST submitted a paper on Project SECURE Gujarat, which was included in the APRSCP Conference Documents, and promoted its SECURE Gujarat project as a model initiative on SCP.

SECURE Gujarat or Systematic Engagement to Culture Responsible Enterprises in Gujarat is a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) Project funded by German Development Bank DEG. It aims to explore how Responsible Production (RP) Framework can be mainstreamed in India’s rapidly growing economy.

ASSIST is an international non-government organization focused on capacity-building. It seeks to promote sustainable practices to address social problems in the developing world, with focus on Asia and Africa. It takes pride in its process-oriented approach to capacity building towards social improvement and sustainable transformation. Its goal is to empower its target groups to make them resilient to the social, economic and environmental challenges.

It is presently based in Makati City, but also has operations in India and Vietnam and manages projects in over 10 countries. Through its Partner to Progress philosophy, it has successfully implemented such projects in collaboration with the European Union, United Nation Environment Program (UNEP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), USAID, International Finance Corporation (IFC), GIZ, and DEG/ KFW amongst other organizations.#
