DrinkingAndDriving.Org Announces SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011 - Seeks Volunteers

New campaign seeks volunteers to gather signatures on a pledge to not drink and drive in the middle of December! Non-profit, DrinkingAndDriving.Org launches SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011 - Dec. 11-17 to inspire drunk driving prevention.

Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- How many people could YOU get to sign a pledge to not drink and drive?  That's the question being asked by 501c(3) non-profit, DrinkingAndDriving.Org.  SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011 will be held December 11-17 and volunteer signups are being accepted now.   The goal that week is for volunteers to gather signatures on SoberDrivers Pledge petitions and hand out printed copies of The SoberDrivers Pledge to petition signers.

The SoberDrivers Pledge is one of the drunk driving prevention tools from DrinkingAndDriving.Org.  People taking the pledge promise to never drive drunk, never let others drive drunk, and to always know their alternatives to driving.  SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011 isn't a pledge for donations; it's a pledge to always drive sober.  In fact, volunteer signature gatherers are not allowed to accept donations on behalf of DrinkingAndDriving.Org.

DrinkingAndDriving.Org president, Allen Porter explained how SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011 came about, "We routinely receive letters, phone calls, and emails from students throughout the school year.  One young lady named Chelsea in Muncie, Indiana sent us a letter recently where she described the loss of a friend in 2004 to a drunk driver.  Chelsea had recently done a presentation in her class about drunk driving. During her presentation, she had her classmates sign DrinkingAndDriving.Org's SoberDrivers Pledge handouts.  Along with her letter, Chelsea sent us a pile of signed SoberDrivers Pledge certificates.

"It got us thinking about how many people we could get to sign the SoberDrivers Pledge if we had Chelseas all over America personally asking people to sign the pledge for one week.  We had done several pledge signing events on large posters and it was always so rewarding.  People love to take The SoberDrivers Pledge and when they take it in person rather than online, they are more likely to tell others about the pledge and why they signed it.

"Our goal is to have thousands of people all across America taking The SoberDrivers Pledge right in the middle of the holiday rush," Allen continued.

"The holidays are an important time of year to consider drunk driving prevention because of the spike in social drinking that occurs.  90% of all drunk driving happens after drinking with family, friends, or coworkers.  Drunk driving happens most of the time because we let it.  Among other things, SoberDrivers Pledge Week reminds us at a crucial time to not let others around us drink and drive with our knowledge.  This campaign sends the right message at the right time."

Pledge Week 2011 petitions and handouts include space for a volunteer-provided memorial picture, or promotional message.  Volunteers may sign up as individuals or as groups.

On group volunteers, Allen added, "Businesses, schools, churches, or really any other groups are invited to volunteer for SoberDrivers Pledge Week.  We expect active participation from school groups because colleges, universities, and high schools represent the majority of DrinkingAndDriving.Org's web traffic.  The first group to sign up in our campaign was a designated driver service, TakeMeHome2night.  We hope to see many designated driver services get involved with SoberDrivers Pledge Week 2011.  DrinkingAndDriving.Org supports and promotes the designated driver service industry because designated driver services ARE drunk driving prevention."
