Nov. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- DETROIT, M.I. – MI Ford dealers may have been seeing some successes in their dealerships as newer, more fuel-efficient models have come to the market for their customers, but Consumer Reports doesn’t agree the success is from their reliability as Ford drops to No. 20 on the list.
The ranking seems to have fallen due to problems outlined in survey results of three vehicles—the Explorer, Fiesta and Focus—all are the newest models available from Ford Motor Corp. It may be true that the reliability of a new car may suffer for the first year, but the problems Ford is facing with its models include problems with the technology the company is selling their vehicles on.
MyFord and MyLincoln Touch infotainment systems as well as the new PowerShift dual-clutch 6-speed transmission on the Fiesta and Focus are having many issues, and MI Ford dealers may be aware that the issues are causing the surveys to rank Ford lower on list.
According to David Champion, director of Consumer Reports’ automotive test center, “It’s not only that MyFord Touch and MyLincoln touch is very complex to use in many ways, it is the fact that the systems crashed and it was issues with slow performance of it,” he said at an Automotive Press Association event in Detroit. “When you are looking to buy a vehicle, why should you put up with something like that?”
Other problems that drivers may be encountering include the PowerShift transmissions not performing well at low speeds while creating a chattering noise; low speeds like in a parking lot, for example.
The reliability report from Consumer Reports is as well-known as the J.D. Power and Associates quality survey. Unfortunately, Ford dropped lower in that area as well; from 5th place to 23rd in June.

MI Ford dealers may have more of a challenge as they have to overcome the issues in the technology they are selling, but as Ford Motor Corp updates and makes changes to the technology, perhaps the survey figures will go up.
