Nov. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Beginning in the early morning on November 12th, the streets of downtown Frisco will be marked off in preparation for the annual Frisco Community Parade honoring America’s war veterans and featuring many businesses, organizations and individuals from the community. One float to notice will be a trailer showcasing three local Kids ‘R’ Kids schools that have spent many weeks raising money for the Helping a Hero Foundation, an organization dedicated to meeting the unmet needs of wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Helping a Hero’s “Wounded Hero Program” specifically targets helping those veterans whose severe injuries warrant their need for a specially designed home, and this December, Frisco resident and Purple Heart recipient, John Wanye Walding, will have a home dedicated to him and his family in honor of his service. Building and dedicating a home like his is only possible through the fundraising efforts and community support of businesses like Kids ‘R’ Kids and the individuals who get behind the cause.

For the past month, students, parents and staff of Kids ‘R’ Kids Preston Vineyard, West Frisco and Legacy West have been partnering with the Helping a Hero Foundation to sell and decorate cardboard bricks in order to build a model that will illustrate the types of homes that are built by the Wounded Hero Program. The cardboard home presented during the parade will be a visual tribute to our nation’s veterans and a source of pride for the kids who built it.

Karen Shelley from Kids ‘R’ Kids of West Frisco says they enjoyed participating in the Veteran’s Day parade last year, and that the children see this as “a way of saying a huge ‘thank you’ to our veterans. We are very proud and honored to be a part of this very special event!” During the parade, representatives of the Kids ‘R’ Kids schools will be handing out fliers with more information on how the community can join in the effort through purchasing bricks and making additional donations.
