RecruitMilitary Joins U.S. Chamber Council to Help Veterans Find Jobs

RecruitMilitary, a military-to-civilian recruitment firm, has accepted an invitation to join the Veterans Employment Advisory Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Nov. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- “Let’s get those veterans hired, and soon!” said Drew Myers, founder and president of a nationwide military-to-civilian recruitment firm, as he announced a collaboration with the world’s largest business federation. Myers’s company, RecruitMilitary, LLC (www.recruitmilitary.com), has accepted an invitation to join the Veterans Employment Advisory Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The council is part of “Hiring Our Heroes,” a U.S. Chamber initiative focused on enhancing collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve career opportunities for veterans.
“We are delighted to participate in this collaboration,” said Myers, a former captain in the United States Marine Corps. “Businesses and government agencies from coast to coast are massing their forces to achieve a noble objective, a swift and drastic reduction in the number of unemployed veterans and military spouses – a number that at present is much too large.
“Hiring veterans and military spouses is a way of saying ‘Thank you for your service and sacrifice,’” said Myers. “It also makes good business sense. Veterans possess outstanding skill sets attained in the military, as well as personal characteristics that make them excellent employees – including leadership, initiative, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic.”
Since 1998, RecruitMilitary has been connecting employers, franchisors, and educational institutions with job-seeking men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses. The company makes those connections via a nationwide schedule of Veteran Opportunity Expos, which are job fairs enhanced to include franchisors and educational institutions as well as employers; a job board with a database of over 450,000 job seekers who have military backgrounds plus more than 400,000 job postings; Military Sourcing Services, a recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) mechanism; and Search & Employ®, a bimonthly print magazine for job seekers with military backgrounds. RecruitMilitary sends more than 36,000 copies of the magazine to transition counselors at over 200 military bases throughout the world, National Guard and reserve units, and men and women who attend RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos.
RecruitMilitary has more than 50 employees. All of the company’s owners, officers, and senior account executives, and the vast majority of the remaining personnel, have served in the armed forces. RecruitMilitary is headquartered in Loveland, Ohio, near Cincinnati. The company is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, and the Loveland Area Chamber of Commerce.
RecruitMilitary and the U.S. Chamber joined together in July 2011 to produce 13 Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos from September through December 2011. The venues for the events are Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Atlanta, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Seattle, Dallas, Charlotte, Virginia Beach, San Diego, and Houston. The U.S. Chamber scheduled 100 Hiring Our Heroes events from March 2011 through March 2012 (www.uschamber,com/veterans).
The Veterans Employment Advisory Council consists of many of America’s largest firms, including Chesapeake Energy, Citigroup, CVS Caremark, Federal Express, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the International Franchise Association, Monster/Military.com, Navistar, Prudential, Ryder, Seaton Corporation, Siemens, 3M, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Union Pacific, and Walmart.
The council is committed to five principles: (1) hiring veterans and military spouses, (2) sharing best practices and adopting next practices for veteran and military spouse employment, (3) reporting measures such as job opportunities, interviews, and job placements, (4) providing mentors to help transitioning servicemembers and military spouses, and (5) with the support of the Chamber’s extensive grassroots network, enlisting the commitment of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses across America to do the same.
