Palos Verdes Bicycle Center Celebrates 3rd Anniversary with Great Free Events for Cyclists

Nov. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- If you live anywhere in the LA’s South Bay and love to cycle, the PV Bicycle Center annual anniversary celebration has become the place to go.  This year the festivities take place the weekend of November 19th and 20th. Local cyclists will have an opportunity to participate in rides, races, demo rides, and take advantage of very special sale pricing.

The featured event of the weekend will be the arrival of the Specialized Bicycle demo fleet loaded down with the latest in high tech road and mountain bikes.  Experts from Specialized will be on hand to provide detailed guidance and information about the bikes, their capabilities and components as well as set up the bikes for test rides. Riders will have the rare opportunity to take the bikes out on a serious hour long demo ride. With both the men's and women's Specialized demo fleets coming to PV Bicycle Center, this will be your best chance ever to come ride some of the hottest bikes around. Some of these bikes, like the women's S-Works Amira, aren't even available yet. Come try the hot new Venge, the bike that Mark Cavendish piloted to five Tour de France stage wins and this year's World Championship. Or try the Fate, an all carbon 29er mountain bike just for women!  Demo bikes are available on a first come first served basis, but with two days, 32 men's bikes and 20 women's bikes everyone should have a chance to try their favorite. On Saturday morning at 10:00, take your own bike or a Specialized demo and test your mettle with an uphill time trial at the famous PV Switchbacks (PV Dive East). This 1.9 mile course up Palos Verdes Drive East from the ocean side will challenge all cyclists who take on the hill. The elevation gain of 533 feet doesn't seem so daunting when taken at a moderate pace but at time trial pace it's a real effort. The overall record of 6:19 is held by pro cyclist Sid Tamberlay; the amateur record is 6:55. We'll award prizes in four categories: mens, women's, mens 50+ and women's 50+. The prize is a $75 gift certificate from PV Bicycle Center.

Mountain bike enthusiasts should show up at the shop on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for a guided mountain bike ride on the trails of Del Cerro Park.  You can bring your own bike or use one of the demo bikes based on availability. Ride up the hill from the shop or we’ll shuttle you to the start of the trails.
