Nov. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- As Thanksgiving approaches, an online leader in water filter sales, WaterFilters.NET is encouraging their customers to turn their attention from “getting” to “giving.” The e-commerce company is marking this Friday as “Blue Friday” in celebration of their plans to give away 5% of online sales to provide clean, safe drinking water for people in need.

Blue Friday emphasizes the basic human need for water. WaterFilters.NET launched as a small business in 2002 with this very need in mind: to provide a site online for people seeking healthy alternatives to bottled water. The company’s founder Jamin Arvig was convinced that there was a growing segment of the public who would choose to filter their water. It was a healthier choice for their household, and a healthier choice for the planet. WaterFilters.NET began as a business running out of the space behind the couch in his family’s apartment, but it grew exponentially in the years that followed. For the past three years, WaterFilters.NET has been recognized as an Inc 500 company, among the fastest-growing private companies in the United States. Clearly, the need for safe, clean drinking water is an ever increasing concern among the American public.

With Blue Friday, WaterFilters.NET is expanding their efforts to help provide access to drinking water far beyond their customer base to the world at large. The online water filter retailer has pledged 5% of their sales to a campaign for water charities, including donations to Blue Planet Network, Clean Water Fund, Living Water International, Project Wet, Thirst Relief International, WaterAid, Water for People, Waterkeeper Alliance, Water.org and The Water Project. WaterFilters.NET has formed a preferred partnership with Scott Harrison’s non-profit organization, charity: water. Their organizational model at charity: water is based on complete transparency, so that 100% of all donations go directly to the cause while funds for administrative expenses are raised separately. Previous WaterFilters.NET campaign efforts have already generated over $7500 for charity: water.

On Blue Friday, a WaterFilters.NET customer who buys a refrigerator filter, faucet filter or any other water purification product from their extensive inventory will automatically have 5% of their online product order given to help drill for wells in developing countries where clean, safe drinking water is scarce. Customers can help further by “liking” the efforts of WaterFilters.NET on Facebook, in order to spread the word among family and friends.

Like charity: water, the team at WaterFilters.NET believes that we can end the water crisis in our lifetime by ensuring that every person on the planet has access to life’s most basic need -- clean drinking water. Blue Friday marks an exciting new development in the fulfillment of that vision.
