Maria Shriver sends Tweets to followers asking support for Crossroads Women through Tweet2Give

Maria Shriver asks friends and fans to support Crossroads Women founded by 2010 Minerva Winner Sister Terry Dodge. Sister Terry "I pray media and celebrity supporters of Maria will re-tweet Maria's message to help boost the campaign."

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Maria Shriver, like other high profile people, is bringing attention to charitable organizations through social media. Her Twitter account has nearly one million followers. Unlike many celebrities that tweet about a trip to the post office, Maria is cautious about what she sends out to her followers. Her tweet to ask for donations to Crossroads comes from great respect for the founder Sister Terry Dodge. In 2010 she presented Sister Terry the Minerva Award for her work with women who have been incarcerated. Two of the other winners that year were Oprah Winfrey and Sandra Day O'Connor. In October of this year Sister Terry won an award from Bank America for her work.

The mission of Crossroads, Inc. (http://crossroadswomen.org) is to provide housing, education, support and counseling in a homelike environment for women who have been incarcerated. The goal is to empower women to take control of their lives and to help them step out of the revolving door of prison and jail. Since July 1974, their services have been provided at no cost to women immediately upon their release from prison. Participation in the Crossroads’ program gives a woman the security of knowing her basic needs are met and allows her to focus on acquiring new skills and tools for healthier living.

The Tweet2Give.com(http://tweet2give.com) platform allows a celebrity spokesperson to "Tweet" their followers, or post on their Facebook page, a request that a donation be made to a specific non-profit organization. Tweet2Give tracking system is able to compare donations between several celebrities for contests to see which celebrity's followers can raise the most donations for a designated charity. These donations can be tracked individually or by “team”. Fans can also join the fun by establishing their own goal and link page.

Tweet2Give uses Twitter's and Facebook’s ability to reach large groups of loyal celebrity fans and provides followers with a secure and direct donation process. It provides non-profit organizations the perfect program to reach new donors using the technology that they are most comfortable with. “People who follow celebrities on Twitter and Facebook are considered to be their loyalist fans, and many are willing to support their favorite celebrity's donation requests. The popularity of Twitter and Facebook with all age groups has resulted in generating larger donations than many non-profits anticipated," according to C.E.O. Warren Prescott.
