Burns earns Wheaton’s Extra Mile Award

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Announced recently at Wheaton’s 57th Annual Partnership Conference, Stephen F. Burns, Wheaton’s Chairman of the Board, was awarded Wheaton’s Extra Mile Award.

The Extra Mile Award was introduced in 2000 to acknowledge an agent, driver or corporate employee who performs the extraordinary every day. Award winner’s attributes include unselfish contributions to the Wheaton system and adherence to Wheaton’s mission and values: Treat everyone honestly, fairly and professionally.

Burns took over as Wheaton’s Chairman of the Board and CEO in 1988. Since that time, he was instrumental in growing Wheaton World Wide Moving from a medium-sized company with annual revenue of $50 million to the sixth largest household goods carry with revenue in excess of $160 million.

Instrumental in establishing Wheaton’s household good tariff in 2007 and Wheaton’s background check policy – the first in the industry – Burns has served on the Board of many organizations, including the American Moving and Storage Association as well as the Central Indiana Children’s Wish Fund. In 2006, Burns was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year
in the Best of Indiana category in the Lake Michigan Area Program.

In honor of Burns’ influence at Wheaton and within the moving and storage industry, Wheaton renamed the award to the Stephen F. Burns Extra Mile Award.
