MOSCOW – 17 October, 2011 – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) has signed an agreement with OTDELSTROY-INVEST LLC to open a Sheraton hotel in Moscow, Russia. Scheduled to open early 2014, the Sheraton Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel will be the company’s second Sheraton hotel in the city of Moscow. The hotel is part of Starwood’s strategic expansion plan to open more than 60 Sheraton hotels around the world in the next three years.
“We are delighted to partner with OTDELSTROY-INVEST LLC as we open our second Sheraton hotel in Russia,” said Roeland Vos, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East. “As Russia continues to attract both business and leisure travellers, the time is right to extend the Starwood portfolio across the country.”
The new 10-storey hotel will comprise 333 guest rooms, two restaurants and bars, 900 square metres of ultra-modern meeting space, a 900 square metre spa and fitness centre and an indoor pool. Signature Sheraton amenities will include the luxurious all-white SweetSleeper beds, the Sheraton Club Lounge, the Link@SheratonSM experienced with Microsoft®, and the Sheraton Fitness programmed by Core Performance.
The hotel will be built as part of the Skypoint Business Park that is 800 metres from the international terminal of Sheremetyevo Airport and along the main access highway to the airport. An international gateway currently serving over 15 million passengers annually, Sheremetyevo Airport is the major entry point for international travellers to Moscow.
According to Alexander Guretsky, CEO of OTDELSTROY-INVEST LLC: “The most important task during the implementation of the multi-functional Skypoint Business Park project was to ensure synergy between the hotel and office components. The presence of a Sheraton hotel in the Skypoint Business Park will undoubtedly become a major attraction for business travellers who have numerous affiliates across Russia and will appreciate having modern hotel facilities near the business park and the most dynamically developing Russian airport.”
Sheraton Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport will offer the Starwood Preferred Guest® programme, which made headlines when it launched in 1999 with a breakthrough policy of no blackout dates on Free Night Awards. SPG® offers members the ability to redeem awards at more resorts, more luxury properties, more European hotels and more golf properties than any other hotel program.
The opening of Sheraton Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel follows the openings of the Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Centre in Italy and the Sheraton Baku Airport Hotel in Azerbaijan this year, reinforcing Sheraton’s position as the leading operator of airport hotels in Europe.
Starwood currently operates nearly 75 hotels in East Central Europe including three in Moscow: Sheraton Palace Hotel, Hotel National, a Luxury Collection Hotel and Le Méridien Moscow Country Club.
