Follow on Google News | “365 Days of Clay Cups” A Potter's Online Cup Making Marathon Nears The EndAmateur potter makes cups for 365 days as a new way to gain both experience and instruction from professional potters around the world through online videos.
By: Hobby Potter “It has been an incredible experience putting myself out there for the world to see (lack of skills and all) with the shear purpose of getting critique on my techniques from experienced potters.” says Schoppet. “ Yes, cups have flown off the pottery wheel, but hope they have had the opportunity to see the fruits of their graciously given instructions… Before the project began on January 1, 2011, Tammy Jo was a closet ceramic enthusiast who under medical professionals instructions was told to find herself a “relaxing hobby”. Pottery had always been something she wanted to try. Without the time or opportunity to take formal classes, she was determined to learn the craft. Her only pottery making instruction came through DVD’s, books, YouTube videos and magazines such as Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated. On December 31, 2011 Tammy Jo’s 365 Day marathon will come to a close when she throws her last and final cup in the series. It’s her hope this experience has helped others struggling with the lack of available resources or time . “No matter what your obstacles may be, you can always find a way to learn what you need to know, no matter how unconventional it may appear to others.” says Schoppet, “Sometimes it takes thinking outside the box for a solution and although difficult, it has been so worth it!” To watch this series of video clips or view before and after photos of the cups, visit www.HobbyPotter.com or on YouTube at www.youtube.com/ HobbyPotter.com (http://www.hobbypotter.com) is an online publication focusing on sharing ceramic resources and information with clay enthusiasts. Most recently they have been featuring the journey of online hobby potter Tammy Jo Schoppet as she embarks on a 365 Day Cup journey to becoming a skilled potter. # # # About HobbyPotter.com HobbyPotter.com (http://www.hobbypotter.com) End
