Delusions of Grandeur Author, Buck Winthrop says he found the meaning of life working with the homeless youths of Venice Beach.

Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- When Delusions of Grandeur author Buck Winthrop was skateboarding down the colorful Venice Beach boardwalk last November he says he felt something was going to be put in his path that would change his life. He came upon the, "Send Me A Penny" booth that raises money from spare change to help the growing homeless population in Venice Beach. Like many people passing by he put whatever change he had in his pocket in the collection jar. He took an apple and just observed.

Anthony Perez, CEO and Founder of the non-profit Send Me A Penny organization came over and said they were short handed and would he possibly be willing to help out a few hours.

"Of course I said yes," says Winthrop. "I have been very fortunate in my life and feel it is imperative to give back any way possible."

Winthrop, who is very active in the animal rescue movement in Los Angeles was struck by how many homeless people have dogs. In a time when people are abandoning pets in foreclosed homes he found it remarkable how healthy and happy these dogs were.

"I could never give up my dog," says Billy, a twenty two year old from Utah. "She is everything to me. She eats before I do."

On Saturday November 19th, the author and publicist will walk in Kobe Bryant's Celebrity homeless Walk L.A. sponsored by the United Way. "I agree with Kobe that the homeless situation is a 'dirty stain' on a great city," he said and vowed to help change it. In addition to the walk, Winthrop is part of a private VIP reception that evening in Pacific Palisades where he is auctioning off several canvas murals of his new "Santa Monica Pier" series of which 100% of the proceeds are being donated. The series, in its various incarnations are also set to be installed at non-profit health and children's hospital's.

"Bright, happy photos of amusement park rides give sick children hope for better times," Winthrop says. "I am glad that it is able to do that and raise money."

Volenteering his time with the "Send Me A Penny" non-profit organization has also put another creative project in his path--A network reality show. The series, "Wish You Were Here xo Venice Beach" is according to Winthrop, "The next Jersey Shore." The series will follow six hip homeless youths along with surfers, skaters and gang members.

"Trust me," Winthrop promises. "You have never seen anything like this.
