Nov. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Ms. Kusum Kavia, VP and COO of Combustion Associates, Inc. (CAI) was asked to speak on the red-hot topic of Renewable Energy and Prospects for Sustainable Power Supply in Africa.  Africa has taken center stage as a global magnet for growth and investment, and the need for sustainable energy is enormous.  The 2011 Summit took a newly focused approach by spotlighting key sectors where Africa presents its greatest case for business, such as power and energy.

Ms. Kavia was joined by Moderator Mr. Mudassar Imran, Senior Energy Economist of The World Bank Group; Ayanda Nakedi, General Manager of Eskom; and Mike Haney, Global Operations Director of Wise Power Systems.

Topics of discussion were:
•   Renewable Energy as the gateway for sustainable power supply in Africa
•   Recommendations to expedite Renewable Energy adoption in Africa
•   Renewable Energy options that will best fit Africa
•   How African governments can learn from Europe, North America and China in
financing and project conceptualization for Renewable Energy development.

Ms. Kavia was born in Nairobi, Kenya and was educated in the UK.  With her husband, Mr. Mukund Kavia, the couple started CAI in Corona, California in 1989.  CAI started as an environmental consulting company specializing in air pollution control equipment, then evolved into manufacturing. CAI is also an Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm (EPC) specializing in Modular Power Plants, Distributed Generation, and Skid-mounted Process Systems.

Earlier this year, CAI was awarded the Presidential “E” Award for Excellence in exports, presented by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce.

Currently, CAI is in the commissioning phase of an 80 MW Power Plant in Benin, West Africa. This is a complete “green field” project and employs local citizens, providing quality life changes and a boost in the local economy.
