Nov. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The Army Strong High School Football Coach of the Week Award was presented to University Academy Head Coach Damon Paul following the Gryphons 61-33 dismantling of O’Hara, a team which came into the October 1 match-up as the ninth-ranked team in Missouri Class 3A.

Paul, who served in the Army for 7 years before taking the helm at University Academy, characterized the victory as the biggest win in the 10-year history of the program.  “They were an undefeated and highly-ranked Class 3 team, so this was a huge moment for our program…we had a good game plan and the kids went out and executed it well,” Paul said.

Sophomore quarterback Dimonic McKinzy led the way for the Gryphons completing 26 of 36 passing attempts for 412 yards and six aerial touchdowns.  He also tallied 110 yards and two rushing touchdowns while contributing six tackles and an interception on the defensive side of the ball.

“Sometimes one player can make a coach’s job much easier,” Paul said when commenting on McKinzy’s performance.  “Against O’Hara he did it all for us.”

The Army Strong Kansas City Metro Coach of the Week Award is presented by the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion.  Recipients are selected by Kansas City Sports and Fitness Magazine based on excellence demonstrated on and off the field.

Sgt. 1st Class Paul Echols presented the award during a special ceremony in October.  Echols is the station commander at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Grandview.  He can be reached at (816) 763-3193.
