AUSTIN, Texas —
DiscDish.com is turning over the voting duties for this year’s
Christmas Movie Advent Calendar to its readers. The DVD and Blu-ray website is asking readers to submit their favorite holiday movies to be included in a new Top 25.
In December 2010,
DiscDish.com published its first Christmas Movie Advent Calendar (http://www.discdish.com/
index.php/2010/
12/01/christmas-
movie-advent-
calendar/). Choosing from all the holiday films released up to that point, the
DiscDish.com editors came up with a Top 25 list that included such animated favorites as
The Nightmare Before Christmas, dramas like
Miracle On 34th Street, musicals including
White Christmas and comedies like
A Christmas Story.
The list was compiled just from movies, no holiday television specials, but the criteria just required that Christmas had to be a major part of the film’s plot. That allowed the
DiscDish.com editors to include fantasy film
Gremlins and action classic
Die Hard. The list even honored foreign war film
Joyeux Noel.
Just like an advent calendar, in the
DiscDish.com Christmas Movie Advent Calendar a new film is revealed each day, with the No. 1 title unveiled on Christmas Day. In 2010, the classic movie
It’s a Wonderful Life was No. 1.
For 2011, readers can go to
DiscDish.com and submit their favorite holiday films. (Submit here:
http://www.discdish.com/index.php/2011/11/07/whats-your-f...) And the editors are opening the Christmas Movie Advent Calendar to holiday TV specials, like those from Peanuts or even the British TV shows
Dr. Who and
The Office. Submissions end midnight Nov. 29, 2011.
On Dec. 1, 2011,
DiscDish.com will begin its 2011 Christmas Movie Advent Calendar, compiled from readers’ choices. A new readers film or TV special favorite will be unveiled every day leading up to No. 1 on Christmas Day.
