Nov. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Ashford Radio had the honor of having Renee Ortiz, the Chief Deputy Clerk for Suffolk County Legislature, as a special featured guest on Friday, November 4th, 2011. Ms. Ortiz and Gigi Ernetta held an informational discussion on societal issues, and the plans and programs that were implemented to address those issues.

As a native of Long Island, born and raised, Renee Ortiz plans to run for Islip Town Council. For over fifteen years, she has exemplified extraordinary commitments towards Community Advocacy. Recently, she has begun a project called the Park Vision Tour, where she independently uses her personal time to visit all parks and pocket parks, in the town of Islip, to view and assess all current conditions, such as lighting and equipment issues. She also takes time to talk personally with residents about the safety of nearby parks and any negative recent activity that may have taken place. Ms. Ortiz practices being proactive and not reactive, and is certain that this method would be more effective for change.

Her goal as Town Council, is to help people “take back their communities”. She started a campaign called “Paint Back the Street”, where volunteers come together to paint and clean any visible graffiti around the community. Residents now have the availability of calling the town to report graffiti sightings, and a Graffiti Mobile Unit will be sent out accordingly. Recently, she ran this campaign in a few Suffolk County communities, and with receiving such positive feedback, she now plans to spread the campaign into more areas of the county.

Currently, she is in the process of proposing an Outreach Program for gangs. The program entails the assignment of a ‘Gang Prevention Specialist’, to each town or district, and they would work as a liaison for that area, working cooperatively with law enforcement, local agencies and other entities. Its sole purpose is simply to prevent the issue of “gangs”, before they begin.
