Getting her start as a spoken word artist, Scott intially demonstrated her knack for words through poetry. She then extender her talent into the recording studio when discovered by The Roots members, Amir “Questlove” Thomspon. One of her earliest accolades includes co-writing a Grammy-winning song, “You Got Me,” which was performanced by acclaimed artists The Roots and Erykah Badu. She debuted as an artist to sing the award-winning tune at a live Roots performance in 2000.

As the first artist signed to “Hidden Beach Recordings,” Borgata event headliner Jill Scott premiered her album, “Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1,” which earned a 2003 Grammy nomination for Best Female Vocal Performance.
