Nov. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- 7 November, 2011 - Winter is just around the corner so it's time to prepare for Winter proofing your Rattan Garden Furniture.

One of the main benefits of rattan garden furniture is that it is very hard-wearing and fantastic for outdoor use. While other types of furniture can easily become damaged if you leave them outside in inclement weather, rattan garden furniture is much more durable and can withstand a range of conditions.

However, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't take care with your rattan garden furniture. A little bit of care and attention will make sure it lasts even longer and stays in top condition for as long as possible. Winter proofing your furniture is a good idea as this is often the time of year when we experience some of our harshest weather, so it makes good sense to take action to protect your furniture.

For instance, quite a lot of rattan garden furniture comes with cushions that make it more comfortable to sit on for long periods of time. While these cushions can usually handle a bit of rain without becoming damaged, it's worth storing them safely inside during the winter months. This will stop them becoming water-logged and dirty in bad weather and means you'll be able to use them again when summer makes its reappearance. Giving the cushions a wipe with a damp cloth before you store them can help, as can making sure they're perfectly dry before you store them for the winter, or else they might be more likely to attract dirt and mould.

The frame of your rattan garden furniture also warrants some attention when it comes to winter-proofing it. The vast majority of rattan furniture today is made out of a synthetic material rather than natural rattan, which means it is able to stay outside without damage. For some large pieces of furniture, taking them inside might not even be an option, so just make sure they are clean before you leave them for the winter. You might like to cover them with tarp to protect them from the worst of the weather, too.

Another great thing about rattan garden furniture is that it is often stackable. So, if you have dining chairs that you've been using outside or a stackable rattan garden suite, you might like to stack them up and store them in a shed or elsewhere indoors just to make sure no harm can come to them over the winter. As a durable material, rattan should be fine if you leave it outside; just keep an eye on it as the season progresses to make sure it stays in top condition for the coming warmer weather.
