Nov. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- This coming Friday’s date, November 11, 2011 – 11-11-11 – has inspired a horror movie and a wide array of apocalyptic Mayan-calendar conjecture.

A group of self-described “media geeks” in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom have decided to flag 11-11-11 as the start of a kindness revolution. No horror, no apocalypse – they simply ask everyone join them in performing eleven random acts of kindness on the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year in the current century. They’ve tagged this movement Eleven Forward (http://www.elevenforward.com), and are using the hashtag #occupykindness to spread their message on Twitter and Facebook.

Phil Conein, the founder of Techead, a creative-services consulting firm in Richmond, says, “it really feels like people are lost and confused these days, and are looking for connection in meaningful human ways. Paranoia doesn’t build communities, kindness does. That’s why we started Eleven Forward. Pay it forward, using kindness as the currency.”

The mission is simple: people who want to be part of the Eleven Forward movement just need to perform 11 acts of kindness on 11-11-11 – for strangers, for family, for friends, for their community – and they’re members. They’re also invited to follow Eleven Forward on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/elevenforward) and on Facebook.

The group offers some suggestions for 11 acts of kindness on 11-11-11:
•   Take 11 bags of food to your local food bank
•   Donate 11 coats or 11 pairs of shoes to kids in need
•   Donate $121 dollars to the Red Cross (provides food to 11 families for the holidays)
•   Pay for a meal for 11 strangers
•   Pay for 11 friends or clients to receive floral bouquets
•   Drop off 11 boxes of donuts to a nursing home
•   Pay for 11 people waiting in line at Starbucks
•   Donate $121 for 11 cats to receive 11 days of life at the local SPCA/Rescue
•   Donate $121 for 11 dogs to receive 11 days of life at the local SPCA/Rescue
•   Give 11 gift cards to Subway or McDonald’s to people in need
•   Send 11 phone gift cards to 11 servicemen or women via the USO

Instigator Phil Conein says the he knows only too well how easy it is to become unkind these days. “I’m guilty of being unkind myself in these perilous economic times,” he says. “I want to break my own habit, and help others to do the same.”

About Eleven Forward:
Today, we face a constantly changing world that is driven by fear, anxiety, and depression. We want to help change that mindset. We believe it just takes a single act of kindness to change someone’s attitude for a minute, an hour, a day, a year … a life. Brain research tells us that by disrupting the pattern of repeated behavior, you’re able to change from one pattern of behavior to another. With this in mind, we - a small group of media geeks - would like to disrupt a behavior pattern, and make a difference.
