13 Year Old Composer wins 2011 PTA Reflections Competiton

Nov. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- (Atlanta) Rae Baker claims the  Musical Composition prize for the Sandy Springs (GA) Charter Middle School PTA Reflections Competition of 2011.  Her composition also received approval for consideration at the state level competition earning her a prize at the North Fulton County level.  The theme selected for the 2011 Reflections Competition is Diversity.  Students are required to write an essay to accompany their arts submission for consideration in the competition.  Rae Baker wrote, recorded and performed her own cello composition to secure her second win in the PTA Reflections competition in as many years.

Rae is a member of the Fulton County Honors Orchestra and former member of MYSO (Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Atlanta).  She has played the cello four plus years under the private study of Ms. Alexandria Rice. Rae is a founding member of the jazz trio Agape Love (www.agapeluv.us) where she enjoys performing with her sisters in popular venues across the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Ga.  When Rae is playing Gospel Jazz, she performs on the electric bass, lead guitar and full drum kit. Rae was featured on Atlanta Live and in Skirt Magazine with her sisters for their professional level musical skills.
The National PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in one or more of six areas: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage), dance choreography and film/video production. In its more than 30-year history, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art.
Students participate in the Reflections Program by submitting entries to their local PTA or PTSA. Any PTA/PTSA in good standing is eligible to sponsor a Reflections Program
