PRLog - Nov. 4, 2011 - CAMPBELL, Calif. -- The alternative fund raising program put on by Blacktop Comedy is an opposite approach to the familiar “Run to Feed the Hungry” which raises money and awareness for those in need throughout Sacramento California.
Blacktop Comedy Fundraiser
The Blacktop Comedy sponsored “Sit To Feed The Hungry” was created as an alternative to running, for the many folk who want to come out and join in to help the community, but don't want to break a sweat doing it. The successful and smart fundraiser is in its third year providing assistance that goes directly to The Sacramento Food Bank at a time when it is needed most. The popularity of the program has grown with a large increase in participants.
“Sit To Feed The Hungry” gathers every year at the finish line of the “Run To Feed The Hungry” Race, located at 57th and H Street in Sacramento. The group recommends attendees bring their own chairs to cheer the runners on. There are multiple ways of donating money to the annual event that takes place on Thanksgiving morning, November 24th.
Blacktop Comedy is thrilled to partner with the worthy cause and is taking all cash donations online and on the day of the event with ALL proceeds going directly to The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. “Sit To Feed The Hungry” has created a one of a kind commemorative tee shirt available for a ten dollar donation which may be attained at the event or online by visiting www.blacktopcomedy.com/
The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is a local, non-profit agency committed to serving individuals and families in need. They have a staff of forty and a volunteer force of over 4,000 folks. The Sacramento Food Bank provides free emergency goods and services to nearly 15,000 unduplicated men, women and children each month.
The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services also offers nine diverse programs and services at no cost to individuals to combat hunger, improve literacy, strengthen families, educate youth, and foster technological skills. The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services also mentors parents, builds self-esteem and provides hope.
Paul Burke is the brainchild behind the “Sit To Feed The Hungry” event and is also the artistic director of the Blacktop Comedy Improv Co-operative. The Blacktop Comedy mission is to bring great art to the community. They recognize that amazing talent is all around and the group spotlights a different member of the community, displaying their work throughout the theater every month.
Blacktop Comedy is committed to improv, which is the art of making something up on the spot, whether it is a song, character, dialogue, or entire story. Improv is spontaneous, live theater without a script. It’s exciting and imaginative. It is no real surprise the fun and authentic “Sit To Feed The Hungry” is making a difference in its community and has grown now in its third year.
