A tree that serves as a central character in a novel that I've been working on for the last
4 years. Every time I see that tree, it serves as a reminder that I have to finish my novel.
It symbolizes a window of opportunity to share my ideas, imagination, creativity, opinions and
beliefs with the world. Before I know it, one day, the tree will be gone. A city official will decide that its
land will be better served housing a seven-unit condo.
When that day arrives, my window of opportunity will be closed. Gone forever.
Everyday, I smile at the tree as I drive by and think to myself "I know you need tending, but there are
other things I need to take care of today. More important things than to write a novel. I have bills to pay."
The truth is... none of those things get done either. Office hours are wasted mostly on the internet,
sharing youtube videos with others, checking comments on facebook. This time that goes to waste,
could be used to save a perishing tree of creativity.
Life demands that we priorities what's most important. That we stop and explore these windows of opportunity
that open to us every day instead of walking past them. While we live in a world of ideas that bombard
us via TV, Radio, Billboards, we seldom encounter them in our daily interactions. How many of your friends
actually come up with ideas that they follow through on? How often do they come to you and say "I've got an idea,
and I'm going to do something about it!"
Can you imagine how exciting that would be? Even if the idea isn't your own. Ideas are gems.
Don't be afraid to share them by fear that they don't live up to media standards. Ideas are
worth exploring and they light up a room, because every idea holds the potential to move
humanity forward.
So why are you still waiting? Don't miss your chance to make a difference today. To turn up that light.
Don't waste your precious time on futile habits and don't leave your creativity
to burn out inside. One day, when you're ready, you'll realize that your candle burnt out long ago.
Grab that bulb that goes on above your head and use it to shine a big light on the journey you're
about to take on. Don't start next week, don't start tomorrow. Don't even start later today.
Start NOW.
