BIG ARTS Opera & Ballet in Cinema Series Presents Tosca Thursday, November 17

A performance of Tosca recorded from The Royal Opera House will be shown in high-definition at BIG ARTS on Sanibel Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. in Schein Performance Hall.

PRLog - Nov. 4, 2011 - SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. -- BIG ARTS is launching the Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series this fall; a program that will stream live and pre-recorded performances via satellite from the world’s most distinguished venues directly to Schein Performance Hall. The series is a joint venture with Emerging Cinemas, the largest all-digital theater network in the U.S. The season’s line-up includes Tosca (Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.); Don Giovanni (Dec. 7 at noon); Cendrillon (Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.); Il trittico (Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.); Le Corsaire (March 11 at 11 a.m.); and Rigoletto (April 17 time TBA). All performances are $20, excluding Don Giovanni and Rigoletto at $25. Students and children (17 and under) are free.

Set in Rome in 1800 during Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, Puccini’s Tosca is a melodramatic, three-act opera featuring some of the composer’s best known lyrical arias. Its dramatic force continues today as one of the world’s most frequently performed and revered operas. Tosca was captured live from The Royal Opera House in London.

BIG ARTS has upgraded its digital projection system this season and installed a Paragon Electriscreen and a new satellite receiver dish. All Emerging Pictures Opera & Ballet in Cinema will be presented in surround sound and hi-definition. The digital projection system will deliver outstanding clarity, it is the same equipment used by the studios at Pixar, NFL, Sony, NASA, and Disney. Nearly 100 arts institutions, media arts centers and independent art houses across the nation are connected by Emerging Cinemas through state-of-the-art digital technology that enables these venues to exhibit exclusive independent cinema, documentaries, arts programming and foreign language films. BIG ARTS Schein Performance Hall is located at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
