Nov. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Dr. Mark Smith, the only active board-certified chiropractic neurologist in central Virginia, opened a Brain Balance Achievement Center last month to help parents and kids who are working to overcome these learning and neurobehavioral difficulties. The revolutionary Brain Balance Achievement Center approach offers an integrated and comprehensive non-drug, whole-child approach that includes academic performance, social abilities, cognitive function, sensory/motor skills, visual/spatial organization skills, and nutrition. The goal: to help kids literally change the connections in their brains.

“I’ve worked with children in the Autistic Spectrum for the past 20 years, and it has become my passion to help these families heal,” says Dr. Smith. “People need to know that there are effective methods available to actually get to the underlying cause of these problems, that they are not doomed to just ‘live with it’. We have seen tremendous improvement using these research based protocols and are thrilled with the results and excited to offer this program to the greater Richmond community.“

Two information sessions for parents, grandparents, and teachers are coming up. On Tuesday Nov. 15 at 6:30PM, Dr. Smith will present an overview Brain Balance and how it can assist those with ADHD, Asperger’s, Autism, Dyslexia, PDD, Learning Disorders and other disorders within the Autistic Spectrum at Good Foods Grocery in the Gayton Crossing shopping center at Gaskins and Gayton Rd in western Henrico. On Friday Nov. 18 at 10:00AM, Dr. Smith will hold another overview session at the Tuckahoe Library, 1901 Starling Drive, also in western Henrico.

Please call the Center (804-977-2747) for reservations, as seating is limited.

The Brain Balance Program© was developed by Dr. Robert Melillo, based on his research on Hemispheric Integration Therapy (H.I.T.) – a multi-modal approach to the treatment of ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger’s, Tourette’s, learning disabilities, and other neurobehavioral disabilities found in children. His research was the precursor to and foundation for the program, which was founded in 2003 to help children with neurobehavioral deficits improve their academic, social and behavioral functions.

About Brain Balance Achievement Centers Richmond:
Our brain-based approach to neurobehavioral/development disorders addresses the underlying dysfunction that causes them: a functional imbalance or under-connectivity of electrical (brain) activity within and between the right and left sides of the brain. Our Brain Balance Program addresses a child’s underlying brain dysfunction through our unique program which targets sensory/motor deficits, academic concerns, and nutritional needs.  We help children become more focused, improve their academic performance, and enhance their communication and social interaction skills.
