Second Annual Recycle IT a Huge Success for Solve IT

Solve IT, a Lakewood, Colorado technology business, has teamed up with Metech Recycling, a certified e-steward TM electronic recycler, to host an annual electronics recycling event, Recycle IT.

PRLog - Nov. 3, 2011 - LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Lakewood, CO (November 3, 2011) – Colorado is one of the healthiest states in the nation and home to some of the healthiest cities.  Healthy lifestyles and a clean environment go hand in hand and that’s why Solve IT, a Lakewood, Colorado technology business, has teamed up with Metech Recycling, a certified e-steward TM electronic recycler, to host an annual electronics recycling event, Recycle IT.  This year, Solve IT’s 2nd Annual Recycle IT was held on October 22nd and had almost 100 participants who recycled 6,953 pounds of electronic equipment.

According to www.metechrecycling.com “Research estimates that electronic waste accounts for 80 percent of American's toxic garbage and is growing exponentially. Electronic waste contains is a toxic threat to soil and water supplies worldwide. Metech Recycling collects, carefully disassembles and shreds or crushes material, and distributes the end product to certified downstream partners for reprocessing and recycling into new products or raw materials. While that may seem to be the expected definition of recycling, many recyclers do not invest in the labor and sourcing required to ensure it takes place. The sad reality is that less than 15% of e-waste material actually finds its way into new products in the form of recycled material and the rest is dumped in landfills or shipped to other countries where lead, cadmium, mercury, and other hazards end up poisoning air, soil, and water supplies. Improperly handled toxic waste then ends up in toys, food, and other global supply chains.”

“Recycle IT aims to give consumers and businesses in our community the opportunity to do the right thing for the environment by recycling their old electronics responsibly.  Both years we have had a great response from the public, people coming through the event are happy to get rid of those clunky monitors, giant TVs, and old PCs.  People tell us that they appreciate knowing that their data is being securely destroyed and that they are not poisoning the ground with lead and other deadly chemicals in their machines,” said Tasha Pierce, Marketing Coordinator at Solve IT.  “Customers have asked us to host the event more than once a year and we are considering doing so by hosting Recycle IT bi-annually.”

This year Recycle IT was sponsored by Jason’s Deli http://www.jasonsdeli.com/ and by Tokyo Joes, http://tokyojoes.com/ both neighbors of Solve IT on Union street in Lakewood.  Coupons to Jason’s Deli were handed out to every car who came through the event and the first 10 recyclers at 10:00 AM were also given a $5.00 off coupon to Tokyo Joes.  Solve IT plans to continue to seek sponsors in the event.
